19.05.2003 - MAN Turbo supplied the central element of the gas injection process, the compressor, for one of the most important strategic projects of recent years in the North Sea. The project, managed by a consortium of 30 partners headed by BP, was characterized by a high volume of investment.
Prior to delivery, the compressor was tested successfully in a trial workshop run at 540 bar. The compressor package was then subjected to a train test. In 2002, the system was commissioned on the Magnus platform in the North Sea.

Surplus gas is injected into the production field, thus stabilizing its pressure for further oil extraction. High-pressure compressors used for gas injection exhibit a high degree of machine impermeability, low internal leakage levels and reliability at high pressures.

Thanks to the new compressor unit, further oil can be extracted from the Magnus field by injecting surplus gas available from several production units back into the field. The overall Magnus Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) concept is a complex interlinked system of several production units enabling natural gas to be produced and used efficiently.
